The beginning of the end…what does it mean?
For me the beginning of the end started Monday August 8, 2011. This is the day that forever changed my life…. How? you might ask.. Simple. This is the day I attended a seminar for the new bariatric surgeon in town… I really had no high hopes when I attended because I knew my insurance did not cover the surgery, but they have cash prices so I thought I would go check it out and see exactly what I would be looking at, if this was even a possibility for me to consider. Bariatric surgery is something I recently started to consider as an option for myself. While talking to one of the nurses before the seminar started she was asking questions about insurance plans people had because they had started looking to to coverage for them. I told her where I worked, and what insurance we used and that’s when the heavens shined down on me. Although the plan does not cover the surgery right now, it will start coverage as of January 1, 2012. I was in shock. Could this really be something that would be obtainable. It’s a real possibility.
After the seminar I came home and talked with my husband about the option of me having the surgery, and to my surprise, he was ok with me pursuing this option. I can’t believe I can finally get the help I need and at an affordable cost. All it costs is the deductible. And on top of that we receive a $500 bonus at work for meeting certain criteria in October that is deposited into an account to be used to help pay our deductible and other things medical related. I have $833 in my account right now, and hopefully I can have my $500 for this year and my surgery will be completely covered.
So I know some of you may be asking why not just do diet and exercise. Because it doesn’t work for me. I know some of you may be thinking try harder. but I have tried hard and harder to make it work. I can usually start losing weight, and then it just comes right back. And I know that the surgery won’t fix it by itself, that I have to work after the surgery as well, and I know this, but if I can have the jump start of the surgery to help me along then I’m going to take it.
So the requirements for my surgery are as follows:
- Participate in the Naturally Slim program at work within 12 months of surgery– Will be starting my naturally slim next month.
- Attend nutrition classes for 6 months- I will be attending my first one in September
- Be an employee for 2 years– My 2 year mark is March 5th..
- Any other tests that are deemed necessary by my insurance company.
So there you have it. This my my blog on the beginning of the End of my weight issues…
Good Luck Honey!! I'm praying for you!!
